On the Road w/Mickey 233 – Disney Legends 2024!

Disney Legends 2024!

Hey everyone, I’m Mike, she’s Sophie, that’s Brenda, and he’s Grogu, and we’re On the Road with Mickey! This is episode 233 and this week our feature topic is a look at the Disney Legends 2024! In this episode, we are looking at the 2024 list of Disney Legends, and we’re each taking a big look at two of them! Here’s what we talked about:

Cheddar from the Big Cheese:
- Sophie: Coming to Hollywood Studios! Monster’s Inc. Land! Featuring the very first suspension coaster ever in a Disney Park. Picture yourself riding through the factory hanging from a door! That’s what we’re looking at!
- Mike: Coming to Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom – a Cars themed land with two attractions! One will take you on a thrilling rally race through the mountains. The second has less information but will be more for the kids in the family and will be fun for the whole family.
- Brenda: There is so much that came out of D23 that we can’t possibly cover it all, but I’m going to talk about how the Disney Cruise Line is ramping up their game even more! They announced that there will be 4 more cruise ships on the horizon; so if you are counting, we have 5 currently, there are four about to open up soon, and these new four bring the total to 13! In addition, the signature production for the Disney Destiny (sailing next year) is going to be “Disney Hercules”, and on the Disney Treasure will be the brand new stage production “Disney The Tale of Moana.” featuring a 15 foot tall puppet of Te Ka, the largest ever produced for a Disney Cruise Line show!
- Sophie: Coming to Disneyland next year for the 70th Anniversary: A Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic Figure! For the first time ever, when it debuts in 2025, you’ll actually be able to see Walt Disney through the magic of Audio-Animatronics technology in “Walt Disney – A Magical Life.” The attraction will debut inside the Main Street Opera House, and after its initial run, the attraction will play in rotation with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.” So tell me, Brenda and Daddy, what do you think? And to our listeners, what do you think? Let us know in the Facebook page or in the comments!

  - John Williams
    - The creator of the music for more than 100 films, including all nine Star Wars films and all five Indiana Jones films. Attended the Julliard School. Five time Academy Award winner, 54 time Oscar nominated…second in Oscar nominations to Walt Disney’s 59. Recipient of seven British Academy Awards, known as the BAFTA, 26 Grammys, four Golden Globes, five Emmys, as well as the National Medal of Arts, the Kennedy Center Honors, and an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II.
    - In my opinion, what makes a Disney movie unforgettable is the music, and in the movies for Star Wars and Indiana Jones, I would suggest that there are very few people who wouldn’t know the movies when they heard a score of the music from them. One of the best music scores for me is from The Phantom Menace, where Qui-Gon Jin, Darth Maul, and Obi-Wan Kenobi are dueling. I don’t care where I am, when I hear a piece of that music, I see the scene in the film immediately. That is the brilliance of John Williams, and that is why John Williams is a Disney Legend.
  - Frank Oz
    - Born Frank Richard Oznowicz on May 25, 1944, in Hereford, England.
    - Miss Piggy
    - Fozzie Bear
    - Animal
    - Sam Eagle
    - Grover
    - Cookie Monster
    - Bert
    - Yoda
    - When you hear all of those incredible characters, it continually amazes me that Frank Oz voiced every single one of them.
    - Jim Henson had originally been contacted by Lucas about possibly performing Yoda. Henson was preoccupied and suggested Oz to be assigned as chief puppeteer and as creative consultant. Oz performed the voice and puppet for Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Oz also provided the voice of the computer-generated imagery (CGI) Yoda in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. The conversion to CGI was met with some criticism among fans but Oz himself said that was “exactly what [Lucas] should have done.” Oz had a great deal of creative input on the character and was himself responsible for creating the character’s trademark syntax. Oz reprised his vocal role as Yoda in Disney’s Star Tours–The Adventures Continue attraction at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios and in the Star Wars Rebels episodes “Path of the Jedi” and “Shroud of Darkness.” He again reprised Yoda in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
    - Frank Oz also voiced characters in other Disney movies, including Subconscious Guard Dave in Inside Out and inside Out 2. Somewhat tongue in cheek, Frank Oz was quoted as saying that he hopes that Disney gets someone else for subsequent films so that they won’t have to rely on him for the success of the film!
    - Frank’s other movie roles included Jeff Fungus in Monster’s Inc., voices for Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and Sam Eagle in Muppet Vision 3D, and some directing roles as well.

Here’s what we talked about:

Cheddar from the Big Cheese:
- Brenda: Disney has recently released more details about their latest ship, Disney Destiny which will begin sailing from Port Everglades in November 2025. The theme of the ship is ‘Heroes and Villains’ and, as a Marvel fanatic, I feel like this ship is meant for me. The stern will feature Spiderman and the statue in the grand atrium will be Black Panther. This ship will feature some really cool bar offerings including: a Cruella DeVil-themed Piano Bar (De Vil’s), as well as Cask and Cannon, a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed pub. There is even a Dr. Strange-themed bar called The Sanctum. And finally, they will be including the Haunted Mansion Parlor like the one that will be featured on the Disney Treasure later this year. There will be some truly amazing dining experiences like The Lion King Dinner show. Plus, the Avengers will be represented at the Spiderman-featured Worlds of Marvel dining experience, and there will be a 1923 just like on the Disney Wish. Disney Seas the Adventure and the broadway-style production of Frozen will be two of the shows onboard as well. Again, coming to Port Everglades in November 2025 and reservations can be booked on September 10. Don’t miss out on what is sure to be an amazing cruising experience.
- Sophie: If you are going to be going to one of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Parties, you need to know where you get your candy. Here are the locations:

Mike’s Disney Trivia!

Hey everyone, I’m Mike, she’s Sophie, that’s Brenda, and he’s Grogu, and we’re On the Road with Mickey! This is episode 231 and this week our feature topic is Mike’s Disney Trivia! In this episode, we are doing some Disney trivia! I ask the questions, and Brenda and Sophie see if they can get them correct! Here’s what we talked about:

Cheddar from the Big Cheese:
- Mike: The team at Universal has been releasing information in stages about the new Epic Universe park. Today, they released a great video that goes into all that we can experience in the Ministry of Magic section of the park! It’s a great video and well worth checking out! Introducing The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ – Ministry of Magic™
- Brenda: The Momma in me is just beaming at this bit of Cheddar. Disney’s Animal Kingdom has welcomed four new Hartmann’s mountain zebra foals this summer! Penne was born to Heidi on June 13th; Heidi’s first foal, Asha, just had her first baby (a boy) on July 8th, so that’s 3 generations of zebras! 2nd time Mom Juno had a girl, Cada, and second time Mom Aziza delivered a healthy baby boy on July 16th; they are still bonding backstage before venturing out into the savanna.
- Sophie: Friday, August 9th, marks the 55th Anniversary of The Haunted Mansion! The Disneyland version just reopened with it’s Holiday theming on July 29th!

Listener Feedback: Hogwarts House!
- Heidi said “Ravenclaw. Because that’s the house I tested into. (You can’t just pick for fun.). I’m 100% sure you’re a Hufflepuff.”
- Crystal said “Gryffindor! Cuz that’s where I was sorted. I like to think I’m brave. I stand up for my friends. I like adventure.
If I was a character I think I’d be Professor McGonagall. She’s tough on the outside but has a soft inner core. Follows the rules but knows when to break them.
If I had a job I’d be a curse breaker. In the real world looking back on a 24 year career already if I had a choice knowing what I know now, money wasn’t an option for school or earnings or time away from family wouldn’t make me sad, I’d have been an ER doctor or a storm chaser.”
- My sister Robin said “Slytherin because I am resourceful, clever, ambitious, and determined!
If I could be any character it would be Nymphadora Tonks. She is fun, resourceful, determined, and clever. She did her job well!”
- Chrissy said “Ravenclaw cause all the tests say i’m that and they are blue.”
- Chandler said “I’m sorry. There’s some static. I can’t quite hear what you’re saying or asking. If it’s a Disney question, could you repeat?”

A little bit of Walt
- “I knew if this business was ever to get anywhere, if this business was ever to grow, it could never do it by having to answer to someone unsympathetic to its possibilities, by having to answer to someone with only one thought or interest, namely profits. For my idea of how to make profits has differed greatly from those who generally control businesses such as ours. I have blind faith in the policy that quality, tempered with good judgment and showmanship, will win against all odds.”– Walt Disney
